Grand Tasting- Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon

Join us for a vertical tasting of our favorite Caymus wines throughout the years!

We will offer light snacks and open discussion. You do not need to be a wine expert to attend. Just come thirsty and have an appetite for learning!

Featured Vintages: 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013!

Caymus Vineyards is located in the center of the Napa Valley. Primary production is Cabernet Sauvignon grown on low-fertility soils on both the valley floor and the mountains that surround the valley. Attention to viticulture details, some dry farming, high-density plantings (with some blocks spaced as close as meter x meter), thinning of the yield, along with healthy vines and harvesting at an elevated degree of ripeness – all of these elements produce a unique and singular style of Cabernet.

While the wine has sufficient tannins and structure for long-term bottle aging, Caymus Cabernet is dark and concentrated, with ripe, luxurious, fruit-driven softness that shows from the day of release.

Grand Tasting-Explore Zind Humbrecht's Alsatian Wines

Join us for a vertical tasting of our favorite Zind Humbrect wines throughout the years!

We will offer light snacks and open discussion. You do not need to be a wine expert to attend. Just come thirsty and have an appetite for learning!

Domaine Zind Humbrecht was created in 1959 through the amalgamation of the Humbrecht family vineyards in Gueberschwihr and the Zind family vineyards in Wintzenheim. Prior to 1959, both families produced and sold their wines under their respective names.

After taking over the reins from Léonard and Geneviève Humbrecht in 1989, the Domaine is today run by Olivier and Margaret Humbrecht.

Winegrowing is a tradition in the Humbrecht family that has been passed down from father to son since the 30 Year War in 1620. Canon Barth, an historian of Alsatian wine, recounts that the Humbrecht family was a tenant of the Marbach Abbey vineyards near Gueberschwihr in the 18th century. However, it was only in 1947 that the Humbrecht family began producing, vinifying and selling their wines under the Humbrecht name.

Located in northeast of France, Alsace is something of a hidden treasure, known for its very aromatic, floral and spicy white wines – and it’s white wines that make up over 90% of the region’s production.

The region has a unique heritage, as it has changed hands between France and Germany on several occasions throughout history. The wines are heavily influenced by their German neighbours, and even the bottles share the same fluted shape.

Alsace benefits from a semi-continental climate, which is mostly sunny, hot and dry. Situated in the foothills of the Vosges mountains, the vineyards are located in a rain shadow and are well exposed to the sun, which suits the slow ripening grape varieties grown here.

The key grape varieties include Riesling, Sylvaner, Gewurtztraminer and Pinot Gris.

Grand Tasting- Explore Grower Champagne

Join us for a fantastic tasting of our favorite Grower Champagnes throughout the years!

We will offer light snacks and open discussion. You do not need to be a wine expert to attend. Just come thirsty and have an appetite for learning!

“Grower Champagne” generally refers to wines from the Champagne region of France that are made and bottled by the same person who grew the grapes. This is different from wines produced by Champagne houses — think Veuve Clicquot or Pol Roger — which typically (but not always!) blend together grapes grown by dozens, or sometimes even hundreds, of individual grape growers from across the region.

For hundreds of years, that was more or less the order of things: Farmers farmed, houses did the rest, with very occasional exceptions made by the odd grower who undertook their own bottling for personal consumption, or who made at most a few hundred cases a year for the wine bars in Paris, perhaps. But then a major moment for change began in 1994, when the influential Gault Millau guide declared an independent grower Champagne maker, Anselme Selosse, to be the finest winemaker in France. Selosse in turn inspired a whole new generation of independent Champagne winemakers — many of whom are second-, third-, or fourth-generations inheritors of family vines — to begin bottling and selling for themselves, in addition to the ongoing practice of selling fruit to the big houses. Consumer interest soon followed, and today there are many excellent grower Champagne options available to drinkers in the United States."

Grand Tasting- Fortified Wines

Join us for a fantastic tasting of our favorite Fortified Wines throughout the years!

We will offer light snacks and open discussion. You do not need to be a wine expert to attend. Just come thirsty and have an appetite for learning!

From Spanish Sherries to Australian Rutherglen Muscats, fortified wines vary in color, flavor, origin and sweetness. But all have one thing in common: fortification.

Fortification, the addition of grape spirit to wine either during or after fermentation, is a technique used to increase alcohol content and stop fermentation. The process was popularized by the English in the late 17th century to stabilize and preserve wines for long sea voyages. Prior to the development of fortification, many of these wines were made originally as still, unfortified wines.

However, many decisions, like at what point during fermentation a wine is fortified and how it’s matured, create a diverse array of bottlings.

Valentines Day at TerraVox Winery- Couples Taste & Tours

Love birds, please join us at our vineyard for a romantic, private tasting and tour. Package includes two tickets, charcuterie, a guided tour of our sprawling vineyard and production facility, and a tasting of four rare, local wines.

A bonus spread of Kansas City's own Christopher Elbow Chocolates will be included as well!

Appointments will last approximately 90 minutes.

The art of fermenting grapes into wine has been perfected over thousands of years, from prehistory to the present. Today, most wine lovers are familiar with European varietals such as Cabernet, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Riesling, or Pinot Noir but these wines come from only one of the world’s many grape species. With its climatic diversity, North America is home to a large number of indigenous grape species whose winemaking potential is untapped.

This remarkable diversity is cause for celebration. At TerraVox, we are dedicated to raising awareness of the heritage and the promise of North America’s native grapes. Discover with us which of these native grapes form the best expression as wine in our vineyard in Kansas City, Missouri.

One cannot think of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the most celebrated cru of the southern Rhône, without thinking of Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. The Brunier family is legendary in its own right, having been rooted to the enigmatic plateau known as La Crau for over one hundred years. The wines of Vieux Télégraphe evoke the concept of terroir in its purest form: they reflect their dramatic climate, the rough terrain that defines the soil, their full sun exposure at a higher altitude, the typicity of the varietals with an emphasis on Grenache, and of course, the influence of their caretakers, the Brunier family. For many, La Crau is Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s grandest cru.

Join us at our vineyard location for an afternoon filled with Chateauneuf du Pape. Tickets include a flight of 8 pours of wine, light nosh, and open discussion.

Join us for a vertical tasting of our favorite Super Tuscan and Brunello wines throughout the years!

We will offer light snacks and open discussion. You do not need to be a wine expert to attend. Just come thirsty and have an appetite for learning!

The term Super Tuscan was coined in the early 1980s to describe a red blend from Tuscany. What makes “super Tuscan” wine different from other Tuscan wines (like Chianti) is the use of wine grapes that are not indigenous to Italy. Learn about super Tuscan wine and how to seek them out.

What is a Super Tuscan wine?

“Super Tuscan” is a term used to describe red wines from Tuscany that may include non-indigenous grapes, particularly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The creation of super Tuscan wines resulted from the frustration winemakers had towards a slow bureaucracy in changing Italy’s wine law during the 1970s. Winemakers began mixing ‘unsanctioned’ wine varieties (like Merlot) into their blends to make high-quality wines. The legal system eventually yielded in 1992 with the creation of IGT, a new designation that gave winemakers the ability to be more creative.

Grand Tasting- Produttori Barbaresco

Join us for a vertical tasting of our favorite Produttori Barbaresco wines throughout the years!

We will offer light snacks and open discussion. You do not need to be a wine expert to attend. Just come thirsty and have an appetite for learning!

Before 1894, Nebbiolo grapes where sold to make Barolo wine or simply labeled «Nebbiolo di Barbaresco». But in 1894, Domizio Cavazza, headmaster of the Royal Enological School of Alba and a Barbaresco resident, created the first cooperative, the «Cantine Sociali», by gathering together nine Barbaresco vineyard owners to make wine in the local castle that he owned. He understood well the differences between the same grape, the Nebbiolo, grown in the different areas of Barolo and Barbaresco and, for the first time, recognized it on the wine label.

The «Cantine Sociali» was closed in the 1930’s because of fascist economic rules. In 1958, the priest of the village of Barbaresco, recognizing that the only way the small properties could survive was by joining their efforts, gathered together nineteen small growers and founded the Produttori del Barbaresco. The first three vintages were made in the church basement, then in the winery built across the square where the Produttori is still located.

United once again, the small growers continued the work started by Domizio Cavazza, producing only Barbaresco wine and enhancing both the reputation of the wine and the village. The proud past of Barbaresco and the dedication of its creators have made the Produttori one of the greatest producers in a great wine-producing area; it…«continues to set some of the highest standards of winemaking for any cooperative in the world». (Robert M. Parker, Jr.; The Wine Advocate, 2-28-90).

Join us for a seated tasting of wines from the iconic Produttori del Barbaresco.
